Rules of Interpretation # 3

Rules of Interpretation #3

Welcome to our 3rd rule in proper Biblical studies, used in interpretation of the US Law, as well as Bible interpretation.

# 3 The Rule of Content

What is Rule Content? First to understand what God was saying first to the Jew, then to the Gentile, we must understand the ancient use of the word in question and be guarded not to apply our own preconceived understanding of that word. Then we are careful to understand the cultural CONTEXT in the usage of the word. Never can you take one word or one verse as a stand alone interpretation. If you took one word out of a letter I wrote and built a case around it, it would be wrong because it would be out of context!

Reminds me of the January 6th, “LEGO man”, who was arrested for planing and executing January 6th, all from an unopened box of the Capitol LEGOs that the FBI found in his home. The LEGOs were taken out of context!

Read what comes before an after. Read and get a sense of the theme of the book. What do other books of the Bible say about this? Look them all up, because the Bible is a supernatural book that never contradicts itself but rather CONFIRMS itself. Content or Context is king!

Blessings
