We are soon to start on Wednesday nights looking at Which Version Is The Bible and this understandably confuses people. But take for instance the Living Bible and the Message Bible. They are simply one man interpretation of the Bible. The Living Bible was written by Dr. Kenneth Taylor in 1972. The Message Bible written by Eugene Peterson and is said to be a “contemporary paraphrase” and does not strive for literal accuracy.”
There’s been many more starting possibly with Thomas Jefferson who wrote his own Bible “removing all miracles, supernatural events, and references to Jesus' divinity”. Or how about Clarence Jordan’s version of the Bible entitled The Cotton Patch Version, where Jordan paraphrases the New Testament in Southern black farmer style.
It’s important to see who translated it and why text they used to do so. Everyone has an agenda. What was the translators? Many have translated it over the yeas to meet their own agenda. Some in complete unbelief. If you don’t investigate, you may find the version your reading is in fact, not a good one!
