Eight Rules of Interpretation # 7

Today is Interpretation Rule # 7 which is the Rule of Unity

“It is fundamental to a true interpretation of the scripture that the parts of a document, law, or instrument are to be construed with reference to the significance of the hole.”

“Where a transaction is carried out by means of several documents so that together they form part of a single hole, these documents are read together as one… Parentheses they are to be so red parentheses that, such construction is to be preferred, which will render them consistent.”

“In other words, scripture, interprets scripture, and a correct interpretation will not violate that principal. To say in another way, particular scriptures on a particular doctrine, will never contradict each other.”

This is why I like to read in the Torah, the Prophets, the Psalms and Proverbs, and the NT in one sitting, and throw in some Revelation and it always fits together as if it were written at the same time! It’s amazing! The Rule of Unity at work.
