Pesach

April 12th – April 20th is Pesach, or Passover. It commemorates the time when God delivered the Israelites who were held captive in Egypt as slaves for 400 years.  God called Moses to lead His people out of Egypt, but Pharaoh didn’t see things God’s way.  God sent horrible plagues to convince Pharoah that He meant business.  He ignored them all until the last one, when God sent the death angel to go through Egypt and kill all the first born.  There was one stipulation though.  If anyone put the blood of a lamb, on the door post of their home, and with their family, sat down and partook of the roasted lamb, when the death angel came through and saw the blood, it would PASS  OVER their house and their first born would be spared. The first born would be passed over!

Today, Jews still keep Pesach all over the world.  Always remembering their incredible rescue by God.  If they only understood the blood of the Lamb that was slain for them was Jesus Christ.

Today, Christians, believers on Jesus, celebrate Pesach or Passover but for a different reason.  Christ fulfilled the Spring and Summer feast days, which He Himself celebrated.  On the night of the last supper, He was celebrating Pesach with his disciples. You see Passover was pointing to the One that would come to shed His blood for our sins.  That is why at the last supper, He said to do this, to remember Him and what He did on the Cross. His blood paid the price for our sins, and He freed us from the slavery of sin!

Jesus was crucified during the Passover (Mark 14:12).  Christ is the lamb without blemish or defect, which was required, and marked the freeing of all mankind that will free you and me from the slavery of sin.

Remember Him when ever you celebrate Pesach or Passover.  He is Lord of both!

Blessings
