Do You Want To Pay?

Do You Want To Pay?

2 Samuel 3: 28 And when Abner was returned to Hebron, Joab took him aside in the gate to speak with him quietly, and smote him there under the fifth rib, that he died, for the blood of Asahel his brother.

Joab killed Abner, because Abner killed  Joab’s brother.

29 Let it rest on the head of Joab, and on all his father's house; and let there not fail from the house of Joab one that hath an issue, or that is a leper, or that leaneth on a staff, or that falleth on the sword, or that lacketh bread.

David is saying, “Let this sin not rest on anyone but those of Joab’s house. He  is pronouncing a curse over them for their disobedience to God. Today we may find this harsh and unloving, but prior to Jesus paying the price for our sins, when we sinned or someone in our family gravely sinned, that sin had to be born by us, and by our families, instead of Jesus. This should really give us some great insight into really how greatly significant Jesus baring our sins on the cross really is! Can you imagine if you had to pay for your own sins, much less the sins of your father or your grandfather?

David is saying, “Let from this day forth, all of Joab’s families lives be full of trouble, the young and old alike, for the sin of Joab.”

I think we should really take this to heart, and understand how miraculous it is that Jesus bore our sins there on the cross, and paid the price that was due God, and let us just walk away free!

Blessings
