The Blessing of Abraham

What is the blessing of Abraham? Well if you read the story that  makes up his life, you see just a plain ordinary man. He had no church to go to, and no Bible to read. He disobeyed his creator when he told him to leave his country and leave his family. He took his father with him, as well as his nephew. He got sidetracked for a time because of the influence of his father. He told half truths to kings and tried to help God out by sleeping with his wife’s handmade. At almost every turn he was messing up and yet God was still with him and never left him, and Abraham walked continuously in the blessings of God.

Abraham‘s life shows us that it’s not about us! It’s not about how good we are or how often we do good things but rather it’s about what Jesus did for us. Not a lot of sinless perfection which is impossible, but it’s a life surrendered to Christ. It’s a life calling on Him at every step for help and knowing that He will always be there and never turn us aside as long as we call on Him and He will make blessings out of our messes!

Grace is the unmerited unearned favor of God, which Abraham’s life exhibits to us. Don’t think that you’ll earn anything with your good works. You will only get the blessings of Abraham through God‘s unmerited unearned favor upon you.  As the days get darker and more frightening you need to know who you are, and that God is for you, through His son Jesus Christ, and He’s never against you.

“That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.” Gal 3:14
