Lost Etiquette

One thing I see that we have lost is etiquette. I saw on the news that the U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, launched a “Courtesy Campaign” urging travelers to stop wearing pajamas and slippers on flights, suggesting jeans and a decent shirt instead. He’s talking about civility and etiquette.

A friend told me she is not receiving Thankyou Notes anymore from young women, from bridal and baby showers. She said, “At least they could say thank you.” That’s etiquette.

Jesus experienced the very same thing though. Luke 17:11–19 tells how Jesus healed ten men with leprosy, but only ONE—a Samaritan—returned to thank Him. Not even His own people came back to simply say “thank you.” And Jesus took note of it!

That’s unconscionable! Their lives were done for and an agonizing death awaited them and yet they couldn’t even take a moment to say “thank-you”.

If your mother didn’t teach you to say “thank-you” in a hand written card, she should have. And they still make them, by the way. People work hard for their money and to constantly be buying gifts for others is many times a great strain. I remember! So be thoughtful enough to say thank-you in a hand written card. Also, don’t ignore invitations. It costs a lot of money to host showers and weddings. Be thankful that someone likes you enough to invite you. That’s etiquette.

Young women, don’t lose the artful grace of kindness, thankfulness and etiquette and teach it to your daughters.
As my mother used to say, “If you don’t, who will come to your funeral?”

Blessings
