We Need to Understand
How can we truly minister to people if we don’t understand where they’ve been—or where they’re going? We can’t.
Every behavior has a motive. And behind that motive is often a wound—a place of separation from God that someone is desperately trying to fill. People hurt others out of their own hurt. Pain begets pain. Is that an excuse? No. But it is a reality we must confront with compassion and spiritual wisdom.
We must run to Christ with our hurts and our confusion. Run to Him with our broken motives. Run to Him with the pain others have caused us. Run to Him with the things we simply don’t understand.
And when someone wounds us, instead of reacting, we must ask the Lord: “Why is this person like this? What is lacking in their life that causes such pain to spill over into mine?” This won’t erase the problem—but it can soften the blow. It can protect our hearts from bitterness and help us respond with grace.
“Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.” —Isaiah 1:18 (KJV)
Before we form judgments, let’s pause. Let’s dig deeper. Let’s open our hearts to understanding and seek knowledge of the matter—so we can make wise decisions and lead from a place of healing, not hurt.
“In whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.” —Colossians 2:3
Christ is the center of all true reasoning and understanding. Let’s reason together—with Him, and with one another.
