Restraints of Guilt Part 2

It’s very hard to say you’re sorry, at least for some people. Some people are sorry for the consequences of their sin. Few are sorry for the one they sinned against.

Repentance is a sense of grief and dishonor done to God. See the difference in these two statements:
1) I have sinned against the Lord
2) Pray for me that none of these things come upon me
One is true repentance and the other is self, thinking about self alone.

In our story yesterday, the man who sinned against the king was not repentant. He could not bring himself to confess to the king his sin and to say he was sorry, even though the king was offering mercy. He only thought of himself and took his sin with him to the torment of the rest of his life.

“Until we have confidence that God will forgive us, we will not repent to Him. For that reason, only some initiative on God’s part will bring men to repentance, not because we are constitutionally unable to repent, but because our selfishness and pride render us spiritually unwilling. Before we can be induced to repent toward God we must be satisfied that we are coming to him with a just and acceptable offering for sin. To reform our ways from this point forward does not cleanse our conscience. We wholeheartedly believe that sin deserves death. The sins of the past are not atoned for by future obedience.”

Don’t be sorry. Repent today and enter into rest and peace.

Blessings
