What Did Jesus Mean?
"But he said unto them, I have meat to eat that ye know not of." — John 4:32
This moment occurs after Jesus speaks with the Samaritan woman at the well. His disciples urge Him to eat, but He uses the opportunity to teach a deeper spiritual truth. He explains further in John 4:34:
"Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work."
I have learned over the years that I too have meat to eat that no one knows about. And I didn’t learn this on the proverbial mountain of great success and joy. No, I learned it down in the valley of sorrow and death. Why is that? Because that’s where we come to truly realize our need for God.
Unfortunately—or perhaps fortunately—it seems I still find myself there all too frequently. Still looking up for answers. Still realizing my ONLY hope is in Him.
Jesus knew this reality as well. As the Son of God made flesh, entering a wicked world in the same manner as we, He had to look up, knowing where His answers lay. He had meat—help, substance—from the Father that they knew not of.
Today, I have that same meat from heaven. I am daily helped by my Father in Heaven, who provides all that I have need of.
In all honesty, I feel sorry for those who seemingly have never been in the valley—never experienced the deep hunger for spiritual meat. They don’t know the sweetness of that divine presence, the taste of deliverance, the fullness of His provision.
Today, realize your need and partake of the meat that Jesus partook of. You’ll never be sorry.
Blessings
