Self-destruction

We’ve had a lot of dogs over the years, but this one has taught me a lot! Much about human nature, and yes, I know she’s a dog, so let’s change that to the fallen nature, of which all creation is a part. You see my little dog is a miracle dog, literally! She almost drowned from her first bath, breathing in the water. She ate a stick of butter and at 6.7 pounds, almost died. She was almost dead when we came home from an overnight getaway from a sudden bladder infection. She was on her way out from my ignorantly poisoning her with Tylenol after a bad wasp sting and God miraculously healed her. She regularly gets in the trash and eats things she shouldn’t. Last week she ate old food and came deathly ill. Last night I came home to find that she had torn open a S’mores kit with two giant marshmallows and Reese's Peanut Butter Cup  on top. I had set it down to take it to another room and forgot it. She did not touch the marshmallows, but devoured the Reese, paper and all! Once again, I had to pray over her, committing her survival to my Lord.

She gets on tables, squeezes through the tiniest of holes, escaping the backyard and goes behind our backs and sneaks whatever opportunities she can find. This made me think of how she seems to not be able to help herself! She does exactly what she knows not to do. As soon as we leave, she heads for every trash can in the house. She eats everything that will kill her behind our backs. This is the sin nature at work; the choice one makes that will surely do them in, and yet, they do it anyway. This is why Jesus came. To deliver man from the inability to NOT do wrong and ultimately, one day, all of creation will be free! And like a good parent, I still love my little dog, who is hell-bent on her own demise. God loves us while we are prisoners to wrong. He loves us enough to deliver us from ourselves, our destiny with sin. But it is our choice. My little dog seems to have no choice, but I do! Choose Jesus today before you self destruct!

Blessings
