Love & Respect

Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband. Eph 5:33

He is to love, she is to respect. Isn’t love enough?

I was thinking, meditating on this scripture, wondering why he is to love and she is to respect? Did you know most men know on day 1 or date 1 that they KNOW that’s the one they want to marry? It takes a good bit longer for the woman. You see God made things to work a certain way. You can’t have a plant without first planting a seed! When a woman pursues a man it usually does not work out. It’s out of order.

However, each man among you [without exception] is to love his wife as his very own self [with behavior worthy of respect and esteem, always seeking the best for her with an attitude of lovingkindness], and the wife [must see to it] that she respects and delights in her husband [that she notices him and prefers him and treats him with loving concern, treasuring him, honoring him, and holding him dear]. AMP

The man, as the head is to provide love. With love comes provision, protection and security. And with that, women are to respect the man for loving and providing these things for her. She is to look for (if she must) things to respect him for, but hopefully it comes naturally, especially if your focus is properly placed. Focus on what he does right, not wrong and he will rise to the occasion! Men were made to desire and work for respect, just like the Word told us. If he loves you, then reciprocate with respect. Make him feel adequate and capable. You are laying a firm foundation that will withstand the test of time and major storms of life.
