He Hears

He Hears

Did you know that Jesus teaching on prayer was given to correct the ancient customs of praying out loud? Biblical prayers were often sung and chanted. It was looked down upon to pray silently. They would pray the same learned prayers over and over, but Jesus said to come to the Father like this…..from the heart……not to speak learn rote prayers over and over. This was revolutionary to them!

According to JohnDiff.com, “The audible nature of prayer endured until Plato’s stoic ideals began permeating religious circles in late antiquity.”

So when Hannah was crying out to God, travailing in Prayer in 1 Samuel 1:15-16, it appears she was not reciting the wrote prayers. She was most likely crying perhaps and groaning, for her husband’s second wife had been tormenting her for not having a child, which was a shameful thing then. I can just imagine her anguish of heart and no rote prayer would do in this situation! Her lips were moving but no sound was coming out, so this was far from the norm! The High priest Eli, thought for sure she was drunk! If you’ve ever wondered why he thought that, now you know!

God heard her prayer and answered! Would He have answered, had she read rote prayers? We were created for fellowship! This is what Jesus was demonstrating and teaching His disciples. The veil separating us from God was torn in two, when Jesus was crucified. He made the way for YOU to go right into the throne room of God, from your heart, and receive an answer, just as Hannah did. So pray aloud or pray silently, just Pray!

He hears.
