Have you thought about what Paul meant when he said, “Forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead?”
Paul realized he had murdered righteous people! He realized his goodness was as filthy menstrual rags! Yuk! He had to let the past go. Have you let your past go? This is one of Satan’s favorite tactics! He reminds you regularly of your childhood forty years ago, or how you had a melt down last week, or about that bad thought you had yesterday. Satan wants you to live in your past failures and he ensures that you never forget! But Paul says he STRIVES to forget the past! Read that again! Paul is saying it takes effort to forget, but he strives to forget. He knows he can’t go forward in the future, keeping his eyes on Christ, ever striving to know Him better, as long as he is focused regretfully on the past. He knows his past will absolutely hold him hostage if he allows Satan to torment him, so he strives to live in today and focus on how much the Lord loves him, in-spite of what he had done.
Vs 14 I press on towards the goal to win the (supreme and heavenly) prize, in which God in Christ Jesus is calling us upward. Phil 3:14
He strives, he presses on, he made up his mind, he’s determined, he will not be defeated. Remember WHO’S you are and make up your mind to take authority over the enemy, telling him to “shut-up and go away, in Jesus name”!
“I am God’s favorite in Jesus, and I’m resting in what Jesus did for me. I put ALL of the past behind me and I am pressing on to my glorious future in Him, my Him, through Him!!”
Make this determination and proclamation daily, just like Paul. Start today, even if you don’t feel like it! Truth trumps feelings!
