Choosing Sides

The American Civil War was the worst in my opinion, because we fought each other. It was a different time but today we are closer to civil war once again, as our rights are being taken away. Today we are divided in every home. The division becoming more and more deep, more and more vitriol. Jesus divided families when He came.

“I came to send fire on the earth, and how I wish it were already kindled! But I have a baptism to be baptized with, and how distressed I am till it is accomplished! Do you suppose that I came to give peace on earth? I tell you, not at all, but rather division. For from now on five in one house will be divided: three against two, and two against three. Father will be divided against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.” Luke 12:49-53

But for those who will surrender to the King of kings and the Lord of Lords, peace can reign. A tiny glimpse of this Truth was seen in “no man’s land”, the space between the opposing trenches in WWI where no man dare go. When a soldier named Walter Kirchhoff, a German officer and a tenor formerly with the Berlin Opera serenaded the troops, prompting both sides to unite in “no man’s land”, coming out of their trenches, laying down their arms, both sides singing together about the Silent Night that that the Christ child was born. Christmas Eve 1914 for a little while, there was no division and no war, a preview of what is one day to come. When we have all chosen the right side.

His law is love and His gospel is peace
(Oh Holy Night)

Hail the heav’nly Prince of Peace!
Hail the Sun of Righteousness!
Light and life to all He brings,
Ris’n with healing in His wings.
Mild He lays His glory by,
Born that man no more may die;
Born to raise the sons of earth,
Born to give them second birth.
(Hark The Herald Angels Sing)

O Star of wonder, star of night
Star with royal beauty bright
Westward leading, still proceeding
Guide us to thy Perfect Light
(We three kings)

He rules the world with truth and grace,
And makes the nations prove
The glories of His righteousness,
And wonders of His love,
And wonders of His love,
And wonders, wonders, of His love.
(Joy to the world)

Not all sinners choose to reconcile to God but stubbornly choose their own side, but one day….peace will be on earth.

Blessings
