The Journey

My sister is 8 years my elder. She was beautiful. And the boys fawned over her! She was VERY popular in high school, had a great time in school and was very gifted in dance and rhythm. She was on the High school drill team, and in my eyes, she was perfect!
I remember being an awkward preteen, watching the guys come to our house, bringing her gifts, hoping to win her heart.  A few times, I recall going with her and a bow at the time to fancy dinners, and being treated to the revolving restaurant at the top of the Regency in Atlanta. I remember that horrible, awkward feeling, knowing I was out of place. Not sure of which fork to use, what to say, what to do with my hands, while my bright eyed, gorgeous sister dazzled everyone with her perfect smile.
People today may see me confident and possibly even gifted, but inside, I’m still that same awkward pre-teen, who hasn’t quite got it figured out yet. But what I’ve come to realize is that we’re all that way! Sure, some are confident in their looks, some in their brains and others in their talent, but all of that is fleeting. Life flies by and age creeps up on you so fast it’s truly frightening! When your looks fade and people are not bedazzled by your charm as much, when your tired and ready to retire, when your talent has been passed down to those coming behind you, you must be secure in who you are in Christ.
Become His disciple. Don’t buy into the lies. Don’t waist your short life walking to the beat of your own drum, for satisfaction and joy will never be yours. A deep gnawing in your spirit will always be right under the surface. Like me as that young girl, feeling unsure and out of place.
I had to grow up, let go of the dream of being like my sister and embrace who God made me to be IN HIM, for without Him I am still that insecure, awkward, frightened, self condemning girl, that can’t figure life or my feelings out. Never able to measure up.
Colossians 3:10 ESV And have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator.
Find why you’re really here, and walk in that truth. It will set you free!

Blessings
