True Identity

“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” 2 Cor 5:17

In our culture, “coming out” is often seen as a moment of truth—a declaration of identity, a step toward authenticity. But as Christians, we’re invited into a different kind of truth-telling. One that doesn’t just reveal who we are, but redefines Whose we are. We call Christianity a conversion, because your primary loyalty is now to Christ and not self.

Truth-telling in the Christian life isn’t about separating ourselves from our past to form an identity around our desires or struggles. It’s about surrendering our whole selves—desires, wounds, temptations, and all—to the One who gives us a new name and a new family.

When we come to Christ, we don’t just “come out” of something—we are brought into something far greater: the family of God. In conversion, we are not left to navigate life alone or to build an identity from fragments of pain or longing. We are adopted into a body that is diverse, redemptive, and deeply connected by grace.

This family isn’t a ghetto of sameness. It’s not a club for the like-minded. It’s a place where burdens are shared, where hearts are heard, and where transformation is possible. In the church, we find brothers and sisters who walk with us—not because we’re the same, but because we belong to the same Savior.

Jesus redefined family not by bloodlines, but by obedience to the will of God. That means your deepest identity isn’t in your past, your temptations, or even your triumphs. It’s in Christ. And in Him, you are never alone.
