Old Manna

Old Manna

Like dry, moldy manna, are our experiences of the past, as wonderful as they may have been, yet they are useless to the heart that is out of fellowship with God.

Judges 19 recounts one of the darkest chapters in Israel’s history. (I taught the last Preppers; Gargoyles Around Your Heart on this) The tribe of Benjamin had abandoned their faith and their kin, choosing instead to live by their own truth. But what was that truth? It was corruption: lust, violence, sexual perversion, and murder. The men of Gibeah, rather than welcoming a traveling Levite, sought to violate him. In reality, rape him. When denied, they turned their depravity toward his concubine, gang raping her until she died. In a shocking act meant to awaken the nation, the Levite divided her body into twelve parts and sent them to the tribes of Israel. The nation was outraged. Eleven tribes rose up against Benjamin, but they did not first seek God. Their initial battle ended in defeat. Israel did not ask God if they should go to war until after the first battle was they lost. After this, they got smart and inquired of the Lord. They offered Burnt Offerings and Peace Offerings. In other words, they came to God through the blood of Christ, asking for help and direction. The battle turned in their favor the next day and the tribe of Benjamin was almost wiped out for their debauchery and sin. No longer could Benjamin survive on past manna.

This story is a sobering reminder: sexual sin leads to death. Not metaphorically, but literally! Culture may redefine morality, governments may legalize sin, and doctors may rationalize it—but God’s truth remains unchanged. The Benjamites protected the guilty, refusing justice, and they paid with their lives. Their loyalty to sin cost them everything.

When division strikes your home, your church, or your heart—seek God. Don’t rush to judgment or take sides based on emotion or hearsay. Get on your face before the Lord. Ask Him for truth. Be willing to hear what He says, even if it challenges your assumptions. Repent. Surrender. Let the blood of the Lamb wash away your sins, and speak to you knowledge and He will go to battle on your behalf.

Old manna won’t carry you through today’s wilderness. But fresh fellowship with God will. Seek Him daily. Trust Him fully. And walk in the light of His Truth.

Blessings
